Global sustainability strategy Unifi says that the use of Repreve reduces energy consumption by off- setting the need to use newly refined crude oil for production. When full pro- duction of the Focus Electric is under way in March, the Focus Electric’s seat fabric could contain plastic bot- tles collected at NAIAS or CES. “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” is part of Ford’s broader global sustain- ability strategy, which aims to reduce its environmental footprint while accel- erating the development of advanced, fuel-efficient vehicle technologies. Ford vehicles are currently approxi- mately 90% recyclable at end of life and it aims to raise that to 100%. In 2009, the company mandated its fabric suppliers to use a minimum of 25% recycled content for all 2009 and subsequent model year vehi- cles. Since then, 37 different fabrics meeting the requirements have been developed and incorporated into its vehicles. www.ford.com  www.unifi.com  www.repreve.com The seat fabric Repreve is made from a hybrid blend of recycled plastic bottles and post-consumer waste.
