10 PET planet insider Vol. 16 No. 11/15 www.petpla.net Colorado’s spring water in recycled PET by Kay Barton June 26, 2014 - We met: Mr Jeremy Martin, Vice President Around 35km north of Denver, Colorado, lies the small town of Louisville, not far from Boulder. This is home to the ecologically-oriented water bottler Eldorado Artesian Springs, suppliers of spring water to the state of Colorado. In an interview with Jeremy Martin, the vice president of the company who was born in Boulder, we learn what distin- guishes the brand Eldorado from other waters. The compa- ny’s tradition reaches back into the mists of time. In 1905 the “Eldorado Springs Resort” opened 16km away from the present location, although at that time it was still known under the name of Moffat Lakes Resort. The complex, which in addition to the spring, incorporates a small swim- ming pool, a ballroom and a hotel with extensive grounds, has rapidly become well-known throughout the country and has become a centre of attraction for tourists, thus acquiring no small degree of prominence. It had been in the hands of the Fowler family for more than 80 years. It was in 1942 that the precious water was first bottled for supplying to custom- ers; before that it had only been available on a self-service basis within the resort itself. Later on, during the 1970s, the focus was on the supply of 5-gallon water bottles. In 1983 the last Fowler son retired and the resort was put up for sale and for the first time there was the prospect of a change of ownership. “The water has been part of my life since the early 1970s when I was still at college,” says Jeremy Martin. “My current partners, Doug Larson and Kevin Sipple, I have known since High School days. At the time we heard via a stockbroker that the company was on the market and we were keen to go for it. Even though we didn’t know anything about bottling water, we were fasci- nated by the idea.” The Fowler family took to the three enthusiasts and sold the company to them. “Despite the fact that we had only DRYING HAS NEVER BEEN THIS EFFICIENT: ETA plus® LUXOR A 80-2400 Now available with ETA plus ® ETA plus ® considerably reduces energy consumption and protects materials.
