PET TOP TALK 27 PET planet insider Vol. 16 Priority Plastics - Portland, IN, USA As a converter for complete plastic packaging solutions for startup companies to multinational firms, Priority Plas- tics, with five manufacturing facilities throughout the United States can be sure of always being in close proximity to its customers. One of these goes by the name of Govino and has, together with the company, developed a series of PET glasses to cater for more sophisticated requirements. The range comprises several wine glasses and beer glasses as well as decanters. Costing from around US$4, sales are not aimed at the disposable crockery segment. Govino was originally created as a trade tool to help professional salespeople showcase their wines whenever and wherever proper stemware was not accessible. When it made its debut in 2008, Govino’s very first customers included some of the world’s most renowned and respected wine producers, making Govino the first and only unbreakable wine glass of its kind to be accepted by the wine industry. However, the glasses made from PET had to be washed by hand. In order to make the cleaning operation easier, the Tritan TX 2000 by Eastman is being used as a material. This means that the glasses can be tucked away in the dishwasher. The glasses are produced using the extrusion blow moulding technique; the head is cut off to produce an opening for drinking. The edge needs to be reworked to give the edge of the glass a pleasing appearance. www.priorityplastics.com www.govinowine.com Don Johnston, Sales Manager
