COLOURANTS / ADDITIVES 15 PET planet Insider Vol. 17 No. 12/16 www.petpla.net Safeguard for fillings - high UV blocking PET additives EnerPlastics, LLC was established in Dubai, UAE, in 1999, as an independent manufacturer of colour and additive mas- terbatches, servicing the ever-growing plastic converting industry in the region. The company offers specialised and attractive colours for PET applications at a recommended dosage of 0.2 to 5%. EnerPlastics produces a wide range of additive masterbatch for PET applications such as preforms, sheets, tapes, films, fibres and even for recyclate. UV light can gravely affect the content inside the PET bottles such as nutrients (vitamins, lipids, fatty acids etc), colour and savour in food, personal care and pharmaceutical products. EnerPlastics UV barrier masterbatch (EPUV MB) provides UV stabilisation against sunlight radia- tion and UV generated from fluores- cent store lighting. According to the company, EP UV MB maintains high optical clarity of PET and at the same time blocks UV light from 300-370nm which adversely affects the shelf life and quality of both bottle and content inside. EP UV MB is approved for food contact applications and offers protection for the contents from dis- colouration, odour, taste and loss of nutritional properties. It also provides more process stability. It is claimed to be suitable in packaging applications for food, consumer care products and pharmaceuticals, preserving the package contents from the detrimental effects of light. EnerPlastics have special EP UV MB for PET which have strong absorbance in the intense UV region (UVA, UVB and UVC), and it blocks UV radiation from 250-400nm. This is particularly suitable for process- ing where high loadings, low volatil- ity, good compatibility and extreme prevention to ageing are required. Such requirements are very critical for complex moulding parts. The UV MB is suitable for all types of blow-mould- ing applications and will not impart any plate out on mould or dryers, says EmerPlastics. The additives and colours in the masterbatch form will impart better chemical and processing compatibility and helps to obtain consistent UV and other desirable performance, according to the requirements of bottle manufac- turers. The range includes specialised colour MB such as gold, pearlescent and fluorescent for PET bottle appli- cation. EnerPlastics produces micro and semi micro granular masterbatch in order to get a better colour consist- ency and dispersion in bottle. They provide combo masterbatches of desired colour and additives (UV or others) which extend product shelf life by protecting against many UV light initiated or catalysed degradation reac- tions and retains colour. EnerPlastics offers specialised chain extender MB for PET which raises intrinsic viscosity of recycled PET by 20-25% provid- ing increased molecular weight and improved melt strength. A special antiblock masterbatch for PET applica- tions that reduces coefficient of friction without any hazy effect complete the range of masterbatches. www.enerplastics.com
