Ltd. reported on the progress in applications of NGR´s melt polycondensation pro- cess particularly in sheet and tray production. Kurt Pichelmann, Sales Manager Erema Engineering Recy- cling Maschinen und Anlagen GmbH provided an update about the well- known Erema recycling process with special attention to the recycling of PET fibre waste. Andreas Christel, Director of Process Technology at Polymetrix AG reminded the public about the latest technology for bottle- to-bottle recycling. This technology, for the time being underestimated and underdeveloped in the country with the world’s largest polyester pro- ducers, could be the basis of high- tech polyester recycling. One new feature of Polymetrix is called the EcoBlend process where PET melted down recycled flakes is introduced prior to the melt polycondensation reactor to state of the art PET bottle lines. The third topic of the conference “processing & application” included a variety of presentations. Mao-Yuan Chiu from Fare East- ern New Century Corp. (FENC) introduced “Value Added Products of Sustainable Polyester”. Large produc- tion units of highly purified PET bottle flakes allow FENC to produce a wide variety of high quality textile and film products based on 100% r-PET. Alexander Buechler, Executive Director of PETplanet Insider talked about his personal experiences during “The China Road Show” tour. Driving by mobile home across China and visiting most of the market participants of PET packaging from mould makers, preform-, bottle- and cap makers to the beverage companies themselves, Alexander Buechler gained a deep insight into the state of China´s beverage and packaging industry. Similar to the general economic trend the growth rates of beverages and packaging are approaching the new norm of an annual growth rate of about 5%.
