TRADE SHOW REVIEW 34 PET planet Insider Vol. 17 No. 12/16 www.petpla.net Continued product development Moretto, very well known for automation technology for the plastics processing industry, displayed several solutions at the K 2016: the new Moisture Meter, a resin moisture analyser, the XD 12, a high performance mini-dryer and the DGM, a continuous batch gravimetric dosing unit. “K show 2016 was our most suc- cessful K show to date,” reported Benjamin Sutch, Chief Marketing Officer, “and we welcomed a record number of visitors to our booths. We were very excited at the positive response our Moisture Meter tech- nology received and the tremendous interest from customers in exploring it further.” Moisture Meter, a resin moisture analyser The Moisture Meter project was started at Moretto six years ago and is the culmination of the coopera- tion between two universities and an independent research labora- tory. Trial applications, at Moretto customer sites, have been running for over a year and have contributed to continued product development. With this instrument it is possible to certify the production of plastic parts and when installed directly on the processing machine, measures the actual moisture content of the plastic granules. No calibration is required, it is only necessary to select the pol- ymer to be treated, from an included materials database, and Moisture Meter will continuously control the process with sampling every 10s. It represents the missing link in the overall drying process. Complement- ing this instrument is also the facility for on-demand analysis to produce reports on production data by hour, minute, or, in the case of single cavity mould production, a report for every printed piece. The instrument comes equipped with Ethernet, USB, RS485 com- munication ports and is compatible with the Moretto Mowis monitoring system. With the Moisture Meter Plus upgrade it is possible to control the dryer performance by comparing the humidity from the initial part of the process to the end and automati- cally adjusting the dryer parameters to ensure optimal drying. This con- cept creates a closed loop connect- ing the material, dryer, process qual- ity, and plastic processing machine, resulting in a condition that leads straight towards Industry 4.0. XD12 Mini dryer Moretto has a broad range of dryers available on the market including the Xmax range, the larg- est constant performance drying systems. Today the company, with over 10,000 Dry-Air mini dryers sold, is expanding the number of these machines equipped with a mini turbocharger and zeolite technology. Similar to Xmax, the XD12 mini dryer has an integrated turbocharger, developed in-house, capable of generating the required air flow with a consumption of only 60W. The product, which guarantees consistent performance is equipped with features including: dew point equaliser; variable adaptive air- flow; double turbine (process and regeneration); and a colour touch view control. The XD12 mini dryer represents a high performance mini dryer suitable for low production and processing of techno-polymers. Gravimetric continuous batch After 16 years since the first DGM gravimetric dosing units were first produced, Moretto now announces its latest innovation. With more than 12,000 machines sold worldwide several new innovations have been implemented to make the machine more functional and pre- cise. The beating heart of these sys- tems, the traditional double eyelid shutter, is unchanged, featuring 25 milliseconds per batch, which is 10 times faster than the most accred- ited competitors offering significant visibility to the operating process. The DGM machine, which has a re- designed chassis, has four open- ing sides, featuring four transparent panels that provide unique visibility to the dosing process. The internal parts of the machine are illuminated with multicolour LED lighting with four different colours to signal the machine operating status. The inclined mixer offers preci- sion mixing and emptying without stagnation. In addition, the mixer is weighed on a double load cell to ensure precise weighing and with the included totaliser function the possibility to report the actual con- sumption. This feature allows for real-time indication of material con- sumption and transformation. With these innovations the Moretto DGM series of dosing units stand ready to undergo the most intensive applica- tions. www.moretto.com Martina Hirschmann, Media Consultant PETplanet Insider and Benjamin Sutch, Chief Marketing Officer of Moretto inside the Moretto in Motion lorry.
