BOTTLING / FILLING PET planet Insider Vol. 19 No. 03/18 www.petpla.net 25 Filling management and full container inspection The Heuft Spectrum II VX combines highly precise inspecting and monitoring functions with the advantages of the new Heuft Spectrum II platform. This makes an extensive fill management easier - new detection tech- nologies identify lost fill tubes and even cloudy products. The Heuft Spectrum II VX checks the fill level, the closure and the label presence of up to 100,000 containers per hour as a full container inspector. It takes over the contin- uous monitoring of the filler and closer as a fill manage- ment tool. The modular system of the new generation combines proven detec- tion units with a very high degree of automation and the audiovisual Heuft NaVi user guidance. Under- filled and overfilled bottles can be identified with this just as easily and reliably as those which are incor- rectly sealed or unlabelled. A new add-on module for a safe fill tube detection and innovative optics for the reliable identification of product cloudiness are integrated. The Heuft Spectrum II VX con- stantly monitors all the filler valves and closer heads. It provides exact data about their respective perfor- mance in order to easily pinpoint the causes of quality defects. Malfunc- tions which result in costly serial faults and high rejection rates are identified before they can thwart the efficiency and productivity of complete filling lines. Further stand- alone modules for a detailed label and closure inspection can be con- nected without a problem. All-around inspection of returnable PET bottles before cleaning A new solution based on the platform is for bottlers of returnable PET: the new washing machine infeed check finds returnable PET bottles which could cause malfunctions and standstills during the cleaning process and in downstream inspectors (e.g. the “sniffer”) and sorts them out in good time. Non-brand, misshapen, defec- tive, closed, extremely soiled bottles or those contaminated with foreign objects are detected as reliably with it as those pol- luted with critical liquids. A special IR based inspection module detects the fill level of residual liquids. Severe deformation is already detected before the infeed by means of ultrasonics. There are six cameras available for the sidewall inspection. Thus the contour examination is just as reliable as the verification of imprints, label remains and rose embossing. In addition the colour of the residual liquid contained inside and the presence of large foreign objects as well as severe contamination can be clearly identi- fied.
