INSPECTION 39 PET planet Insider Vol. 19 No. 03/18 www.petpla.net can be applied locally on a preform for any given design and therefore control the material distribu- tion. A good handling of the temperature distribution allows the operators to achieve the thickness distri- bution suitable for the specific bottle performance. A recent case study of a major SBM production plant demonstrates the extreme variations in tem- perature during the SBM process caused by exter- nal variables. For example, over a 10-day period it was observed that an unnecessary 25% increase in preform temperature (Fig. 3) occurred at the exact same time as a change in operator staff. This had an obvious impact on not only the bottle quality and production downtime, but also the running costs of the ovens and overall energy consumption by the business. Thermoscan 3D identified this extreme temperature variation on the production floor and ensured that oven temperatures were readjusted to suit optimum levels and that operator staff were made aware. This is even more important when the same product is manufactured at various sites in dif- ferent geographical locations, where quality is also paramount. BTM ‘preview’ simulation software is a user friendly validated stretch blow moulding simulation available in the web browser which will be launched in 2018. In addition, BMT provide their services in bi-axial testing, in-house simulation, material charac- terisation and free-blow experiments. Born out of 20 years of scientific research in SBM, BMT are com- mitted to making impactful, innovative and practical solutions for the SBM industry. www.bmt-ni.com motan-colortronic gmbh - info@motan-colortronic.de www.motan-colortronic.com LUXOR A 80-2400 ETA plus® considerably reduces energy consumption and protects materials.
