BOTTLE MAKING 16 PETplanet Insider Vol. 21 No. 04/20 www.petpla.net Its output of 3,000 bph/cavity – 24,000 bph in total – is designed to make it a suitable candidate for medium-capacity (400 bpm) bot- tled water production lines. Previ- ously, that level of output would have required a 12-cavity machine; the higher production capacity of Chum- power’s eight-cavity LSS8 means that purchasers can increase their output with a lower capital investment com- mitment to new equipment. The LSS8’s design, specification and performance are the result of an extensive program of simulations and iterations by Chumpower’s in-house engineering team. The design for the clamping system’s mechanical struc- ture and dual servo operation that was accepted for production contributes to a 13.5% incremental in efficiency. Other areas, such as preform han- dling and stretch-blowing systems, were also developed for optimum gain. In response to market demands for improved “user friendliness”, including simpler and more efficient changeovers, the LSS8 incorporates a new clamping, mandrels, conveyors, unscramblers and heating and ventila- tion systems. The new clamping system enable users to take out both sides of the mould simultaneously, rather than one side at a time. The new, “quick- mandrel change” feature enables all 168 mandrels to be changed with- out the need for specialist tools. Chumpower claims that changeover can now be completed twice as fast as previous models and standard designs managed; in one hour, rather than two. The bottle discharge air conveyor unit has also been redesigned. It can be slid to the side, thus allowing easy access to the mould. The need for readjustment after the mould has been replaced has been minimised, which helps to save time during changeovers. The unscrambler unit and infeed slide rail have been redesigned to allow easy adjustments during format change, to cater for different neck finishes. A number of aspects of compo- nents have been re-engineered, in order to ensure consistency in bottle quality. The oven ventilation system has been improved, to enable better air flow; mandrel cooling helps to maintain neck dimension stability. The machine’s heating lamps are closed-loop controlled, to ensure precise preform temperature profil- ing; any fluctuation during heating can be automatically compensated by the controller. Stable heating and proper ventilation combine to deliver consist- ency in the heating of preforms, ready for stretch blowing. Chumpower presents eight-cavity CPSB-LSS8 Eight cavities, high output Chumpower Machinery Corporation has been a leading Taiwanese manufacturer of stretch-blow moulding machines for over 30 years. Its current product range includes single- and two-stage stretch blow mould (SBM) machinery; bottle moulds; and preform injection moulds. At 2020 Taipei Plas in September, Chumpower will be exhibiting its latest, eight-cavity linear LSS8 machine.
