7 NEWS PETplanet Insider Vol. 21 No. 04/20 www.petpla.net Sacmi acquires Abruzzo-based firm Velomat On 19 th February Sacmi purchased Velomat, a leading designer and manufacturer of high-speed assembly machines since 1986. This takeover is part of a broader strategy by Sacmi, a leading provider of caps & closures solutions, to expand its product range in a sector characterised by fast-paced product and technology development. Velomat provides advanced component assembly solutions, mainly for the closures, beauty & home and pharma sectors. Its reputation is based on the capacity to develop and build complex, flexible systems on hard-wearing, tested platforms. Over the years, Velomat has strengthened its international standing and won over major customers, some of whom already do busi- ness with Sacmi, thus allowing for immediate sales and product synergies. Even though the takeover was just a few weeks ago, the companies’ respective teams are already working alongside each other on numerous projects, demonstrating the soundness of the Sacmi Group’s strategic outlook. Thanks to economies of scale and access to an international Global Network, Velomat is set to develop high-speed assembly automation solutions, completing Sacmi’s primary packaging product range. www.sacmi.it Coca-Cola will produce bottles in Sweden from 100% rPET In Sweden, Coca- Cola will roll out its new range of plastic bottles made entirely from rPET (excluding labels and closures). They come with labels on which the brands step aside to make way for a recycling message. The new labels will be introduced across the Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and Bonaqua brands and are intended to represent a radical departure from its standard international label design. This move marks the kick-off of a broad sustainability initiative to encourage consumers to recycle, supporting its efforts to create a circular economy for its plastic packaging. From 2020, Coca-Cola will make all of its locally-produced bottles in Sweden from 100% recycled plastic, making it the first country in the world for Coca-Cola brands to do so. The labels on the PET-bottles of Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and Bonaqua will become white, trans- formed from their signature colours to more clearly communicate the message “Recycle me again. I am made of 100% recycled plastic. Made in Sweden” (Panta mig igen. Jag är gjord av 100% återvunnen plast. Tillverkad i Sverige). The exclusive and distinc- tive label design is on all PET bottles in size 0.5 l and 1.5 l which are produced in Jordbro. Sofie Morsink Eliasson, general man- ager at Coca-Cola European Partners Sweden, said: “It takes collaboration to achieve a circular economy for packaging. We have a great deposit system in Sweden – where the majority of the bottles are collected – and today, 85% of all PET bottles are deposited and recycled. The ambition of the initiative is to increase the level of recycled bottles still further towards our goal of 100% by 2025. I am grateful to everyone involved for their commitment to helping increase of the collection rate in Sweden still further.” www.cocacolaep.com ENDLESS INNOVATION SINCE 1919
