Fellow panellists included Ton Emans, President of Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) and Maria Ciliberti, Vice President at Borealis. They looked at the current state of the affairs and new developments of the plastics-related EU legislation and the industry’s answer to the ongoing legislative changes. Materi- als focus sessions on day one was cov- ered PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and PVC (polyvinylchloride). Day two of the virtual conference started with the session entitled Revisit- ing Plastics Recyclability featuring Maja Desgrées du Loú, Policy Officer for Packaging and Packaging Waste at the European Commission, and Fabrizio Di Gregorio, Technical Manager of PRE. Moderated by RecyClass President, Paolo Glerean, this session focused on the revision of the packaging and packaging waste directive and the latest developments in the field of plastic packaging recyclability. The second day’s materials focus sessions covered the current status of polyolefin waste streams including high- and low-density polyethylene (LDPE and HDPE). Setting the tone for the final day of the conference was a session entitled Global Solutions and Regional Actions on Plastic Waste . Speakers included Hans Axel Kristensen, CEO of Plastix A/S, Philippe-Daniel Merillet, CEO & Co-Founder of The One Project and Dorothea Wiplinger, Sustainability Manager – Strategy & Group Devel- opment at Borealis explored existing and developing worldwide solutions for combatting unwanted plastic waste in the environment. Materials focus ses- sions on day three was about polypro- pylene (PP) recycling and the latest trends in recycling technical plastics. The event featured five sponsored “Ask the Expert” Livestreams with industry experts from Erema, Krauss- Maffei, Vecoplan, Sesotec and Milliken, exploring a range of technical topics with in-depth presentations and Q & A sessions including:  Driving the circular economy in plas- tic recycling: performance factors for post-consumer (PET/PO) applica- tions and innovative lighthouse projects with Christoph Wöss and Clemens Kitzberger of Erema;  Circular Economy & Compounding: Latest products, services and solu- tions with Carl-Philip Poepel, Ralf J. Dahl and Josef Art of KraussMaffei;  Next level in plastics pre-treatment with Daniel Wienand and Philipp Güth of Vecoplan;  How to tackle challenges in plastics sorting with Dominik Ebner, Benja- min Häusler and Franz Schaab of Sesotec;  Enhancing the properties of recy- cled polypropylene resins in injec- tion moulding with Tugce Asici-van Houselt and Marta Sans Peña of Milliken.
