History

  • 1906 – founded by Heinrich Herman
  • 1910 – relocation to a new building
  • 1913 – first abroad branch office in England
  • 1951 - developed a special process for coating adhesive paper and marketed self-adhesive labels under the arco brand
  • 1956 – 50th Anniversary
    • first manual label dispensers
  • 1960 – first electric label dispenser
  • 1961 – new coating plant in Bonlanden
  • 1963 – first computer labels
  • 1968 – Herma 200 labeller introduced
  • 1969 – HERMA is now the official name of the company
  • 1969 to 1973 – new plants in Deizisau and Filderstadt-Bonlanden are build
  • 1970 – restructuring of company to align wiht three markets: Adhesives, Labelling sytems and stationary products
  • 1971 – subsidiary HERMA France

  • 2021 – HERMA finances climate protection projects in Filderstadt
  • 2022 - HERMA sees sustainable action as a strategic corporate task with the target of carbon neutrality in 2040
  • 2023 - HERMA participates in the globally active Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi)
  • 2024 - HERMA achieved a silver medal in the EcoVadis sustainability audit
    • HERMA installs own photovoltaic system
  • 2025 - awarded with a gold medal in the EcoVadis sustainability audit
  • 2025 - Long-standing managing director Sven Schneller announced his retirement from the company in mid-2026
  • 2025 - advisory board appointed HERMA CFO Oguzhan Celil as managing director alongside the two existing managing directors, Sven Schneller and Dr. Guido Spachtholz, with effect from August 1, 2025
