The company was founded in 1934 in Padua, Italy and launched its first auxilary equipment in 1964 for the plastics industry.

- 1934 - founded as Costante Piovan & Figli, a specialist in precision mechanics
- 1950s - company lays foundations for a widespread commercial expansion in Europe
- 1960s - Luigi Piovan guides the company in a leading role of auxiliary machinery
- first granulator, convair dryer and convector feeder produced
- 1970 - Piovan produces complete range of auxiliary equipment for plastic processing.

- Joint venture with ‚Star‘, a japanese robot manufacturer
- Piovan Germany opens in Garching
- 1980s - Innovation, engineering and specialisation in PET

- 1990s - Piovan increases its market share not only in PET but also in fields like Automotive, Electronics and Textile

- Software company purchased in order to develop remote plant monitoring and control systems

- new branches in Mexico, UK, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic, India, Turkey, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam
- 2008 - US company Universal Dynamics purchased
- 2010 - it aquires the majority stake in Fdm, a german company specialising in extrusion technology
- 2014 - Penta becomes part of Piovan
- 2015 - Aquatech a new company in the industrial cooling sector founded
- Energy is new member of Piovan group
- new branches in Algeria, Japan, Dubai and Vietnam
