As a leading European trade association, Plastics Europe has centres in Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan and Paris. The association represents plastic manufacturers that are active in European plastics industry. Plastics Europe networks with the Europenan and national plastics associations and has more than 100 member companies, producing more than 90% of all polymers across the 28 member states of the European Union (plus Norway, Switzerland and Turkey). On a global level, PlasticEurope actively supports the World Plastics Council (WPC) and the Global Plastics Alliance (GPA).

The PlasticsEurope’s General Assembly is the organisation’s governing body which is made up of its members. A Steering Board guides the Executive Director and Leadership Team on strategy, budget and policy. This Steering Board is supported by Regional Advisory Boards and the Coordination Committee, each composed of member companies’ representatives and association’s directors.

PlasticsEurope promotes the benefits of plastics by:

  • Liaising with European and national institutions in policy matters
  • Creating alliances with various stakeholders in the plastics value chain
  • Raising awareness of the material‘s beneficial properties and its positive contributions to sustainable development, innovation and quality of life
  • Creating educational resources to provide fact-based information and to correct misconceptions
  • Initiating in-depth scientific studies and sharing experiences to provide valuable knowledge to members and facilitate continuous enhancements of the benefits provided by plastics

PlasticsEurope promotes innovation that enables increased circularity and resource efficiency of the various sectors by:

  • Lightweighting, miniaturization and digitalisation of products
  • development and enhancements of all forms of recycling
  • increasing the use of by-products and waste streams
  • investigating the use of renewable feedstock to produce plastics by supporting initiatives on eco-design with plastics for increased circularity and resource efficiency based on life cycle consideration

The association engages with others:

  • to actively pursue partnerships with the industry value chain in activities aimed at increasing the sustainability of plastics at production stage, use and end-of-life.
  • to share expertise and facts on plastics and engage in circular economy initiatives
  • to work with key stakeholders to ensure appropriate risk-based management of recycled plastics
  • to raise awareness of consumers, policymakers, academia as well as the industry’s value chain on the benefits of plastics and their contribution to resource efficiency and societal wellbeing

PlasticsEurope also pursues marine litter solutions, by

  • continuing the initiative Zero plastics to landfill and promoting the separate collection and recovery of all packaging waste
  • fully implementing the Operation Clean Sweep® programme to prevent plastic pellets entering the marine environment and by actively engaging with the value chain for overall implementation
  • engaging in activities to prevent plastic marine litter both at European and global level through its active role in the World Plastics Council

PlasticsEurope organises and participates in a range of events aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of plastics and addressing the challenges of the 21st Century.

PlasticsEurope organises two major conferences:

  • PolyTalk

and is also one of the organizers of the

  • European Youth Debating Competition
