Collaboration in shrink sleeve technology

The four companies Emsur, Karlville, Siegwerk and SK microworks are presenting their joint initiative Sleeveconnect at Labelexpo Europe. With this initiative, they intend to leverage synergies in the field of shrink film technology. Together, they have developed a packaging solution that is claimed to facilitate striking bottle designs and ensure environmental sustainability.

The bottle, produced by the start-up company BTC Concept, has been designed to have a high-end appearance on the shelf. The white sleeve, with its high opacity, provides the design with visual contour and allows the non-coloured bottle to be 100% recyclable under the right reprocessing conditions. Various finishes, such as Soft Touch or Matt Effect, showcase the possibilities when printing on the sleeve. The washable inks of the rPET bottle’s C-PET sleeve make it an easily recyclable monomaterial that can also incorporate features in the recycling process such as a digital watermark for accurate detection during sorting. Uncoloured bottles are a good source of high quality recyclate, and this sleeve solution is the ideal complement for any type of transparent bottle, says the initiative.

The production process is realised on Karlville machines after the sleeve has been processed at Emsur with washable inks and coatings from Siegwerk and C-PET shrink film from SK microworks.

The Sleeveconnect project will be launched at the trade fair Labelexpo Europe at the Karlville booth 8A86.
