Novapet acquires Enso from GED Capital

Samca Group has announced the acquisition of the packaging company Envases Soplados (Enso), which has been owned by the private equity manager GED Capital since January 2018.

Founded in 1989 and with 3 plants in Andújar (Jaén), Marinha Grande and Lordelo-Guimarães (Portugal), Enso is the Spanish leader in packaging solutions and has a wide catalogue of customised PET containers for the food sector (excluding beverages), bag-in-box, caps, lids and preforms. Its packaging, mostly manufactured using blow-moulding technology, is aimed primarily at the edible oil, honey, vinegar, sauces, cocoa, coffee, spices, biscuits, sweets and pickles sectors.

The company has also made an effort to reinforce its commitment to sustainability. On the one hand, in 2020 facilities and processes were adapted to produce bottles made from recycled raw materials (rPET). It has also completed in 2023 the installation of photovoltaic panels with a capacity of approximately 4 MWp that allow it to cover 20% of the total energy demand, both at the Andújar facilities and at Marinha Grande in Portugal. And in 2023, it launched a line of eco-sustainable packaging with up to 30% less 100% recyclable plastics.

The transaction will allow Samca Group to consolidate a packaging business division that is fully vertically integrated in the PET value chain, which had always revolved around its industrial facilities in Barbastro (Huesca) and Fuenlabrada (Madrid). Now, the Group expects to strengthen its business, given the production, logistics and commercial synergies that can be generated through this acquisition.

By combining PET and preform production capacities of the current Novapet with Enso’s injection and blow-moulding technologies, the new division will have more than 600 employees in its 5 production plants, located in Spain and Portugal. The division will have enough capacity to respond to the most demanding food and beverage, drugstore and cosmetics markets, reaching a combined annual turnover of more than 400 million euros.
