Taghleef Industries introduces floatable white shrink sleeve film to enhance PET bottle recycling

Taghleef Industries has introduced SHAPE360 TDSW, a new floatable white polyolefin-based shrink sleeve film designed to support improved recyclability in PET bottle packaging. The film is claimed to offer high opacity while maintaining the low-density characteristics necessary for effective recycling—properties that align with those of its clear counterpart, SHAPE360 TDS.

The development of SHAPE360 TDSW allows for the use of opaque white labels on clear PET bottles without compromising the recyclability of the packaging, says the company. Its glossy finish enhances print quality, making it suitable for branding purposes, while still enabling the clean recovery of PET material for bottle-to-bottle recycling.

A defining attribute of SHAPE360 TDSW is its floatability, which results from its low material density. This feature supports the separation of polyolefin label flakes from PET flakes during the recycling process. As a result, the PET recyclate is cleaner, contributing to reduced contamination and increased recovery efficiency. In addition, the film is engineered for strong ink adhesion to minimise ink bleeding during the recycling process, thereby ensuring recyclate purity.

When applied to polyethylene (PE) containers, the label and the container are compatible within a single polyolefin recycling stream.

According to Diana Dedeic, Product Manager at Taghleef Industries, the launch of this white polyolefin shrink sleeve film represents an important extension of the SHAPE360 range. The existing product line already includes clear films in 50-, 45-, and the recently introduced 42-micron thicknesses. This addition, she noted, reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to develop thinner and more adaptable solutions that meet evolving industry needs while supporting recyclability.

All films in the SHAPE360 portfolio are developed to meet high recyclability standards, offering packaging converters and brand owners materials that align with emerging sustainability requirements. The white film also provides light protection for sensitive contents such as dairy products and beverages made with natural ingredients. Its compatibility with a wide range of printing methods, including both conventional and digital techniques, and its reliable shrink performance across various container shapes, make it a practical option for full-body labelling.
