Expansion of the PET-Series portfolio with the new PET-Series 320
Otto Systems, the Swiss specialist for high-performance PET preform production systems, is expanding its product line with the new PET-Series 320. Designed for maximum efficiency and availability, the system can run moulds with up to 128 cavities. It is compatible with a wide range of top-entry moulds commonly used in the market, and offers a compact layout, fast cycle times and low operating costs.
Otto Systems’ current system portfolio includes the PET-Series with 160- and 240-tonne platforms for fast-cycle applications with cycle times of under 5 s, as well as the HOD-Series for heavy preforms in the Home and Office Delivery segment. With the new PET-Series 320, the company is extending its offering to mould capacities up to 128 cavities and the associated throughput requirements.
The PET-Series 320 is available in three configurations with different injection groups, offering throughput of up to 1,040 kg and supporting moulds sized between 24 and 128 cavities. The fully electric clamping unit with lock-to-lock times under 2 s is reported to support fast cycle times and overall production efficiency. The energy recuperation of kinetic energy is designed to noticeably reduce electricity costs. The energy-efficient plasticising unit allows processing of up to 100% rPET, meeting all legal requirements and customer specifications. Otto Systems’ Pick-Blow Combi Air Cool – a three-stage cooling system with water-cooled tubes in the removal plate and air-cooled pins in the transfer plate – ensures product consistency and reduces reject rates, says the company.
A distinctive feature of the PET-Series 320 is its tie bar spacing, which provides sufficient space to accommodate a wide range of top-entry moulds commonly used in the market. This feature enables preform manufacturers to continue using large parts of their existing top-entry mould portfolio throughout the full mould lifecycle. The intuitive touchscreen control has been designed to reduce training requirements, minimise operating errors and help lower personnel costs. When combined with moulds from Otto Hofstetter AG – which have demonstrated availability rates above 98% – the system can contribute to a competitive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
