SIPA’s XFORM RENEW wins Sustainability Awards 2025

SIPA S.p.A. has been awarded the prestigious Sustainability Awards 2025 in the ‘Machinery’ category for its XFORM RENEW direct flake-to-preform technology. The award was officially presented at the ceremony held on November 11 in Utrecht during the Sustainability Summit. This recognition is claimed to highlight a significant step forward in the industry’s drive toward meeting ambitious circular economy mandates.

Flake-to-preform in a single step

The XFORM RENEW system simplifies the PET recycling process. Unlike traditional rPET production, which involves multiple energy-intensive steps like melting flakes into string-like filaments, cooling, cutting granules, drying, and remelting, XFORM RENEW directly converts washed PET flakes into high-quality preforms, bypassing the energy-intensive pelletising stage.

This elimination of the pelletising stage results in:

  • CO₂ reduction: XFORM RENEW is claimed to cut CO₂ emissions by 80% compared to preforms made from virgin PET. Even when compared to traditional rPET granule processes, the system achieves an 18% reduction in global warming potential.
  • Energy efficiency: The consolidated process reduces electricity consumption by 30%.
  • Superior quality: The single thermal history minimises PET degradation, resulting in preforms with improved aesthetics and clarity.
  • High-volume production: Equipped with a 200-cavity mould, the XFORM RENEW system achieves an output of up to 144,000 preforms per hour.

Economic and logistical advantage

Beyond the environmental benefits, XFORM RENEW delivers measurable economic advantages, making high-volume rPET production more viable for converters and brand owners:

  • Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO): The process can reduce the total cost of ownership by up to 35%.
  • Material savings: Flake prices are lower than rPET pellets, contributing to cost reduction.
  • Logistics savings: Reduced logistical and warehousing needs cut costs by up to 20%.

“The pressure is on to innovate, especially with new regulations demanding increased recycled PET content,” says SIPA. “XFORM RENEW is not just a machine; it’s a catalyst for change, giving the industry a practical, scalable path to meet sustainability goals while simultaneously lowering costs and boosting capacity”. The XFORM RENEW system is crucial for driving the circular economy, especially since only 6% of bottle PET makes it back into new bottles. By pioneering this solution, SIPA intends to empower its customers to take a leading role in the sustainability of PET packaging.
