PET to PET half-year results: over 14,000t of PET beverage bottles recycled
PET to PET Recycling Österreich GmbH has drawn up a successful interim balance for the year 2021: 14,048 tonnes of high-quality PET beverage bottles were kept in the resource cycle – despite difficult conditions caused by the Corona pandemic. An increase in production is also expected for the second half of the year. Therefore, the showcase company continues to invest in optimising the plant and already plans the next expansion steps.
In the first half of the year, more than 14,048 tonnes of PET beverage bottles passed over the conveyor belt at PET to PET in Müllendorf, Austria, and could thus be recycled. This cannot be taken for granted, because the recycling industry was also affected by the economic challenges of the Corona pandemic: The lockdown changed beverage consumption, working conditions and the market for secondary raw materials. As part of the critical infrastructure, PET to PET was particularly challenged to maintain production operations throughout. Christian Strasser, managing director of PET to PET Recycling Österreich GmbH, proudly presented the first interim results: “The high throughput in this half-year was only possible through coordinated cooperation and strict adherence to the pandemic plan. For this purpose, we have set up an in-house test station to enable the employees to work safely.”
The increased demand for resource-saving recycling prompts PET to PET to expand the plant despite the crisis: an additional label removal before wet washing serves to improve the washing plant; furthermore, the silo facility for washed flakes was expanded as a storage facility before food-grade processing. And a new loading station for silo trucks will be commissioned in August 2021.
