Novapet introduces handled PET amphora for olive oil packaging

Novapet has unveiled a new handled PET amphora bottle. It is made using Novapet ’s REX-L, a specially formulated PET grade with enhanced melt strength tailored for Extrusion Blow Moulding (EBM) technology. This advancement allows for the creation of robust, handle-equipped containers, meeting both consumer demands for ergonomic designs and the industry’s push for sustainable solutions.

PET has long been recognised as a highly suitable material for olive oil packaging, offering durability, recyclability, and excellent barrier properties. However, Novapet states, the limitations of ISBM (Injection Stretch Blow Moulding) technology have prevented the production of “true handled” containers. To realise this, Novapet partnered with Bekum’s technical centre, leveraging its expertise, know-how, and adapted equipment to bring the design to life.

This new type of PET packaging is claimed to offer a dual advantage: to provide an ideal format for olive oil packaging, suitable for both household and large-scale use, while also being 100% recyclable. The handled PET amphora showcases the potential of advanced materials and processes to meet both consumer needs and environmental goals.
