General intent
heidelberg business media GmbH (hereinafter: “hbmedia” or “we”) collects some personal data on our customers and on users of our website.
This page aims to tell you exactly what kind of data that may be, why we do it, how we do it, and which rights you have in regards to your data.
Personal data
Personal data stored by us may encompass:
- Your title, your full name and your gender
- Your nationality and your postal address
- Your email address and your phone and fax numbers
- Your company, job position and company information
- Invoicing details, order details and transaction records
- If you use our web site: Your IP address, the date and time of your visit, which pages you viewed, and technical information about your computer (browser, Operating System, screen settings, etc.)
- Any data freely provided to us by email, postal mail, fax, telephone or in person (e.g., business cards)
Security
We store your personal data on specially protected servers in Germany. The data can only be accessed by a few persons, authorised by us, who are responsible for the technical, commercial or editorial maintenance of the servers.
We have taken the utmost care in protecting your data on our servers from outside access or interference. However, as no computer system is 100% secure, we cannot make any guarantee as to the security of our computer systems.
Right to information
Should you wish so, we will inform you exactly which data we have stored about you.

Right to revocation
If you request hbmedia not to use your personal data for further contacts and/or to delete the data, partially or fully, we will of course do so. Data that is essential for order handling or that we are required to keep by law for tax or commercial records may not be affected by cancellation or deletion.
Requests to delete can be sent to any of the addresses at the top of this page: email, telephone, fax or physical mail.
Please note that in the event of revocation, personalised service can no longer be provided, as they are of course based on customer data.
Purpose and usage
We store your data for the following purposes:
- Fulfilling our contractual obligations towards you
- Responding to your communications
- Shipping our products to you, specifically our magazine or our books
- For subscribers, sending you subscription information as detailed on our subscriber page, e.g. the monthly issue code and the PETplanet pulse
- Issuing and collection of invoices
- Creating statistics
Google Analytics
Whenever you access these Internet pages, hbmedia receives user data, which is stored for security purposes and may allow user identification (specifically, your IP address, the date and time of your visit, which pages you viewed, and technical information about your computer like browser, Operating System, screen settings, etc). This information is collected via the use of Google Analytics, a tool of Google Inc. All data such gathered is anonymized (that means that the identifying portion of the IP address is removed before further processing) and only kept in anonymized form by Google Inc. hbmedia later analysizes this anonymized data in order to gain insight into user behaviour and to compile useage statistics.
This website uses services by Twitter Inc., 795 Folsom St., Suite 600, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. Twitter’s data protection compliance can by found at http://twitter.com/privacy. Twitter uses cookies and reseives your IP address and the URL of this website whenever you access it.
Newsletter / Rapidmail
We use rapidmail to send our newsletter. When you subscribe, you consent to the entered data being forwarded to rapidmail. Please see the rapidmail GTC and data privacy statement.
Use of cookies
Cookies are snippets of text information collected during an online session and stored on your hard disk in the form of a special ASCII file (usually called “cookie.txt”). The place where the cookie is stored on your equipment is controlled by your own web browser. A cookie contains information that is sent back to our server during your current and potentially your future website visits. It can only be read by the server that previously stored it.
Hbmedia only uses cookies if they are essential for user functions, e.g. to assist navigation on the website. Cookies are used by the above-mentioned Google Analytics on essentially all of our web pages, by Twitter Inc. on our starting page, and by Youtube Inc. on any page that includes video. Some of our advertising partner may also set cookies. In addition, we set our own cookies on essentially all of our web pages, specifically to keep track of whether you are logged in and whether you submitted a valid subscription code. Finally, the software we use to display our magazine online, Flipping Book, also sets cookies.
Most browsers are set to automatically accept cookies. You can, however, deactivate this function in your browser. You can set your browser to notify you before you receive a cookie. If you chose to do that, certain portion of our web pages may stop working.
Expectation of privacy
All of our web pages are encrypted. Thus, all information sent between your computer and our web server should be secure. However, we make no guarantee that information or personal data communicated to us will not be intercepted by third parties.
This is especially true if you communicate to us via email or if we sent you, in person or automatically, email confirmations: Emails can be read by anyone in between your computer and our mail server.
Should we be required by law or court order to disclose your data, we will do so only to the extent required and to the bodies entitled to receive such data.

The web pages of hbmedia may contain links to other websites. Hbmedia has no influence on the editorial content of these web pages and on compliance with the data protection provisions by their operators.
Compliance
All measures taken by hbmedia comply with the high security standards of the Teleservices Data Protection Act (TSDPA) and the Data Protection Ordinance for Telecommunications Companies (TDPO) as well as the rigorous privacy protection requirements of the Federal Data Protection Act (FDPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
