GPR introduces new optical online wall thickness measurement system for empty plastic bottles and containers
GP Resources, LLC (GPR), is launching its real-time thickness measurement system for the plastic bottle and container manufacturing market. The GPR Wall Thickness System (WTS), based on a new non-contact optical technology that enables measurement of bottles’ walls independently on both sides, is installed on an existing conveyor downstream of a blow moulding machine for 100% product inspection.
As containers pass through the WTS, it reads their thicknesses in desired locations and displays them instantly on trend chart. This provides immediate feedback for machine operator to quickly optimise blow moulder settings after changeovers and during daily production. The WTS can be set to automatically alert operators with stack lights, and to reject containers that exceed specified thickness limits.
“When the new sensor technology became available to GPR, we immediately decided to start developing our single-sided bottle thickness system,” said Gene Grovijohn, Owner of GP Resources, LLC. “We are excited to introduce the WTS as a solution that plastic bottle and container manufacturers have been waiting for so long.”
