Nestlé Waters Iran promotes PET waste management
Nestlé Waters Iran has been signing a first-of-its-kind partnership with the Institute for Environmental Research at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, to reduce the impact of PET bottles. The 12-month project is intended to help to understand the current PET waste landscape in Iran, before jointly developing an action plan with various stakeholders, such as environmental protection agencies and consumers, to improve the management, collection rates and recycling of PET waste in the country.
“We are working to bring continuous improvements to the quality and safety of our products and environmental sustainability,” explained Azhar Usman, Business Executive Officer for NW Iran.
As part of the project, data on waste quantity, capacity, capabilities and municipality plans on bottle recycling in Tehran and other cities across Iran will be collected. The work with the Institute will also focus on the positive impact of PET bottle recycling, such as sustainability research, recycling PET, raw material supply and reducing plastic waste. At the end of 12 months, Nestlé aims to highlight the current geographical distribution of PET bottle waste in the country, outline the current actions on recycling activities and include options for future collection and recycling.
NW Iran’s latest work with TUMS is part of Nestlé Iran’s 21 public environment and sustainable development commitments it made to Iranian society earlier this year.
