WorldStar Packaging Awards: PET bottle cap made from 100% plant-based materials
The WorldStar Packaging Awards Competition is one of the major events of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and is the pre-eminent international award in packaging. WorldStar illustrates the continual advancement of the state of packaging design and technology and creates a living standard of international packaging excellence from which others may learn. One WorldStar winner in 2020 in the category beverages is the company: Suntory Monozukuri Expert Ltd, Nippon Closure Co., Ltd, country: Japan.
Statement of Suntory: “For the first time in the world, we have introduced the plastic cap for beverage PET bottles, which is made of 100% bio-based material. A polyethylene made from 100% plant-based ethylene is used. Excludes trace amounts of petroleum-based components when switching production lines, and colorant components. We will be able to reduce the use of petroleum-based raw materials by 90% and CO2 emission by 56%, in comparison with the conventional cap.”
