PETinar: Tethered Caps – An opportunity for compression and injection-moulding?
PETplanet’s online conference on on June 23, 2020, 1:00 – 2:30 pm CEST
The requirement to use tethered caps in future is having a major impact on the drinks’ industry as well as on PET bottles. The first question that bottlers have to ask themselves is: what will the customer accept? Issues such as not having the cap in your face while drinking, or not being injured by a fitted closure, are vital to a bottler’s very survival.
Another problem facing bottlers is: do they view this latest requirement as an opportunity to also modify neck and with it bottle design, or can they continue to use existing styles? This leads to further questions: how much will the switch-over cost? Will bottles and caps become heavier or lighter? And can the new caps be made using existing equipment without too much trouble?
All these requirements are geared towards producing the best possible caps, which will need to be produced by the use of technology. In our PETinar, Mr Iacopo Bianconcini from Sacmi and Mr Andreas Brem from Bericap will be explaining the latest state of the art technology, as well as giving an insight into future developments in these areas. We will also have Mr David Chalmers as a guest speaker from Coca-Cola Amatil who will bring his own perspective and ideas to the discussions.
