90 per cent PCR-PET content in the backing material of relaunched adhesive tape

Tesa, international manufacturer of innovative adhesive tapes and self-adhesive product solutions, is relaunching one of its classics. From now on, the well-known Tesafilm will be more sustainable and supplemented by the new Tesafilm Eco & Crystal line. The backing film is made from 90 per cent recycled PET, the adhesive compound is made from water-based acrylate, and the core of the roll is made from 100 per cent industrially generated residues from plastic processing. To match, Tesa is also introducing a new design: The sustainable progress of Tesafilm Eco & Crystal is visible on all packaging and at the POS.

As part of its sustainability strategy, Tesa aims to increase the proportion of recycled and bio-based materials in all products to 70 per cent by 2030 and to reduce the use of non-recyclable fossil plastic by half.

The 90 per cent PCR-PET content in the backing material of the new adhesive tape has been externally certified by UL-Solutions to UL ECVP 2809-2. The certificate for INGEDE method 12 is also available. The product can thus be disposed of together with the packaging in the waste paper without endangering the cardboard recycling process. The packaging materials of the range have also been tested and further developed and most of them have a recovered paper content of 80-100 per cent. The blister caps of the packs are made of 100 per cent PCR-PET. “For the launch, we looked at all the components of the range. Individual packaging formats that have not yet been converted will gradually be replaced by more sustainable alternatives,” says Andreas Mack, Chief Consumer Officer at Tesa.
