Ultra Purge speeds up colour changes and removes carbon
Chem-Trend’s Ultra Purge PO extracts the material residues that can build-up in hot runner systems and cause hang up spots in injection moulded parts weeks after a colour change. A recent trial demonstrated that Ultra Purge PO purging compound can pull carbon chunks from injection moulders’ hot runner systems. Chem-Trend – a developer of release agents, mould maintenance products and purging compounds – said switching to Ultra Purge can boost efficiency in industrial packaging injection moulding processes and reduce costs.
When a large injection moulding business reported hang ups after colour changes in bucket production runs, the hot runner supplier recommended using Ultra Purge. At the bucket manufacturer’s site, Chem-Trend’s European Sales Manager Ultra Purge Graziano Pestarino observed that using Ultra Purge PO cut production downtime and scrap by half compared to the purge compound used previously.
Pestarino said: “Those trials with Ultra Purge PO showed chunks of carbon being pulled from the hot runners. As for the colour change, Ultra Purge PO was not only pulling out the red from the previous production run but also an old colour that had been used two weeks prior.”
“While the screw and barrel cleaning provided by the bucket manufacturer’s previous purge compound had been adequate, it was failing to purge the hot runner systems. That lingering contamination is what led to excessive downtime and scrappage,” Pestarino added.
It was noted that the bucket manufacturer had also been using double the purge compound dosage needed. So switching to Ultra Purge PO, which also cleans the screw and barrel, was more economical.
Chem-Trend has invested extensively in R&D to develop grades of Ultra Purge that are compatible with a wide range of hot runner technologies supplied by the world’s leading hot runner systems manufacturers.
