Printer sees the light with new anti-counterfeit inks
Spectra Packaging have recently developed a new print technique to help counter brand counterfeiting. Its new illuminate fluorescent print, launched recently at a show in Birmingham UK, gives brands an invisible solution that can be revealed when exposed to ultra violet light.
According to figures released by The OHIM (Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market – Trade Marks and Designs), product counterfeiting generates nearly €4.5 billion of direct losses annually for the European cosmetics industry. This figure amounts to nearly 8% of total sales for the cosmetics and personal care industry in Europe.
Chris Bridges, Technical Director at Spectra added, “Counterfeiting is a major headache for customers. They devote a huge amount of time, money and effort developing their products and reputations; sadly product copying undermines this investment. Unfortunately, as counterfeiters become more sophisticated, consumers can often find it difficult to identify the difference between the genuine product and the imitation. We believe this new print technique will help with this growing problem within the industry”.
