Hosaf South Africa PET project
Polymetrix A.G., formerly a Buhler Group Company, and Chemtex, through its Affiliate Biochemtex, and Hosaf, a division of P.G. Bison have entered into definitive agreements to increase the capacity of the Hosaf PET resin plant at Jacobs, South Africa by about 88%. The project will utilise state of the art Invista technology for melt phase polymerization and Polymetrix technology for solid state polycondensation. Polymetrix and Chemtex will provide the technology package, design and equipment for the plant. This PET technology is commercially proven at large scale single line capacities and delivered through Chemtex to many major producers around the world. The African region PET demand has been growing at a steady pace. This project will deliver high quality PET resin with enhanced plant economics and will position Hosaf as a highly competitive and provider of PET resin in the growing regional market.
Hosaf is a local South African producer of PET resin since 1998. It currently produces 128,000 metric tons of finished product on an annual basis. This expansion will enable to Hosaf to increase its capacity to about 240,000 metric tons per annum. Currently Hosaf predominantly services the beverage industry especially carbonated soft drinks and bottled water. This expansion is scheduled to be completed by July 2017.
