Products / Technology

The Compressor Technique business area provides industrial compressors, gas and process compressors and expanders, air and gas treatment equipment and air management systems. The business area has a global service network and innovates for sustainable productivity in the manufacturing, oil and gas, and process industries. Principal product development and manufacturing units are located in Belgium, the United States, China, Germany and Italy.

Atlas Copco’s Vacuum Technique business area provides vacuum products, exhaust management systems, valves and related products mainly under the Edwards, Leybold and Atlas Copco brands. The main markets served are semiconductor and scientific as well as a wide range of industrial segments including chemical process industries, food packaging and paper handling. The business area has a global service network and innovates for sustainable productivity in order to further improve its customers’ performance. Principal product development and manufacturing units are located in the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Germany, South Korea, China and Japan.

History

1878 - founded Stockholm, Sweden, to provide Swedish Rail with equipment for building and running Sweden’s railway

1885 - shift toward the production of steam engines and boilers

1890 - reconstructed, new company Nya Aktiebolaget Atlas was founded with three new production lines: locomotives, commercial central heating systems and machine tools

1901 - production of pneumatic tools by a newly established pneumatics department

1909 - expanded range of tools and air compressors

1917 - Atlas merged with Diesels Motorer, a manufacturer of marine engines and stationary diesel engines

1920s - all operations were moved to Sickla, Sweden

1948 – renamed to Atlas Cepco (Compagnie Pneumatique Commerciale)
