Company Profile

Founded in 2017, Magnomer is based on the simple observation that inefficient sortation is the root cause of poor recycling. Ravish Majithia pitched an idea for improved sortation using magnetic markers to polymer expert Vishal Salian, developing initial prototypes of Magnomer’s technology in 2016. Ink chemist Kumaril Kapadia joined the team in 2017 with a focus on ink and coating development, that lead to the novel Magmark™ coatings.

The core idea are magnetizable coatings for recyclable packaging. Magnomer coatings are printed on labels without altering manufacturing of PET bottles. After consumer use the bottles are sent for recycling, during which the bottles are grounded into flakes. Now with the Magnomer coatings recyclers can remove labels using existing magnetic separators.

The coatings can be seamlessly integrated into current packaging, improving separation in existing recycling operations. Resolving technical problems in material segregation leads to higher quality recycled products and better economics.

Magnomer coatings are:

  • Scaleable
    • complement current high-speed printing with no impact to operations
  • Recyclable
    • enable recycling by imparting magnetic functionality
  • Cost-Effective
    • cost-equivalent to adding a color to brand artwork
  • Complementary
    • do not affect brand artwork or design
  • Food-Safe
    • comply with all relevant safety regulations for indirect food contact
  • Bleed-Resistant
    • designed to not bleed during wash steps in recycling operations

Products

  • Magmark SS
