With a history since 1969 Nampak is Africas leading packaging manufacturer. The company operates from 28 sites in South Africa, 13 sites in the rest of Africa and is present with 10 sites in the United Kingdom.

Nampak manufactures generic, as well as custom-designed HDPE and PET bottles. Sizes range from 125ml to 5 litre, compatible with both foil and screw-cap closures. The bottles are available in clear as well as pigmented colours. In addition Nampak produces matching caps for their bottles.

Furthermore the production range includes injection moulded HDPE crates available in various configurations, colours and sizes. The inter-stackable crates are moulded from 100% recycled HDPE.

Nampak produces as well Pure-Pak cartons for milk, fruit juice and yoghurt products.

Finally paper and glass production is included in Nampak‘s production range.

Nampak continually improves the products and services they offer their customers with their own research and development staff and also offers service and maintenance.

History

  • 1969 - Nampak (National Amalgamated Packaging) formed through acquisitions 1968, listed on Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 1969.
  • 1970s - Nampak bought by Reed Corp and sold to Barlow Rand
  • 1983 - Nampak acquired 51% of Metal Box
  • 1988 - Nampak acquired 100% of Metal Box
  • 1990s - expanded into UK by acquisition of BlowMocan, expanded into Europe by acquisition of Plysu Plc. acquired Crown Cork South Africa
  • 2002 - acquired Crown Cork's operations in Anglophone Africa, acquired Malbak Ltd.
  • 2005 - Joint venture with Wiegand Glass
  • 2006 - 10% of Nampak shares sold in BEE transaction
  • 2007 - Nigeria Cartons and Labels established
  • 2011 - Angola first beverage can plant opens, acquired minority shareholdings in Nigeria Metals and Malawi operation
  • 2012 - acquired the remaining 50% shareholding in Nampak Wiegand Glass from Wiegand Glass, acquired remaining 50% of Elopak SA
  • 2013 - acquired remaining shares in Packaging Industries Malawi, first aluminium beverage can line commissioned at Bevcan Springs in South Africa
  • 2014 - Alucan (Nampak Bevcan Nigeria) acquisition in Nigeria, commissioned Nigeria plastic closures line for still water and carbonated soft drinks, Nampak Cartons and Labels division sold, commissioned Third furnace at glass, purchased the remaining 51% interest in Bullpak Ltd in Kenya
  • 2015 - Tissue, corrugated and sacks divisions sold, Flexible sold, Recycling sold, sold 50% shareholding in Sancella SA (Pty) Ltd.
