Döhler GmbH is a global producer, marketer and provider of technology-driven natural ingredients, ingredient systems and integrated solutions for the food and beverage industry. The production ranges from flavors and emulsions, natural colors, basic materials, fruit preparations, alcoholic and alcohol-free beverage bases, milk bases, malt and cereal bases, sweetening systems as well as fruit and vegetable juices, purees and concentrates. Extensions were completed at the Darmstadt/Germany location with the new Customer and Communication Center (2004) and the new Flavor Factory (2011). Döhler now has 23 production sites, more than 50 sales offices and application sites and is active in more than 130 countries. More than 5,000 employees worldwide work for Döhler.

History

• 1838 - Lorenz Döhler founded the original company – a spice mill – in Erfurt/Germany
• 1892 - Wilhelm Gemmer takes over management of the company
• 1924 - Leo Gemmer takes over management - founding two new sites
• 1948 - Döhler, a significant food provision company in the Eastern section of the divided Germany, is nationalized.
• 1952 - compounds and flavors based on fruit juice for the fast-growing soft drink industry
• 1957 -  company moves to Darmstadt/Germany
• 1962 - Construction of a modern compound and flavour factory
• 1973 – new management by Jörg Gemmer and Dr. Jochen Klein
• 1979 - takeover of Lucca GmbH in Heilbronn/Germany
• 1980 - takeover of Olymparom Essenzen in Wallerstein/Germany
• 1982 - acquisition of Citrusco N.V. in Belgium
• 1988 - Döhler celebrates the company’s 150-year anniversary
• 1990 - first subsidiaries in Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic
• 1992 - first production facility established at Döhler Szilas in Budapest/Hungary and subsidiary Döhler Flavorade in Madras/India
• 1995 - acquired Euro-Citrus N.V., based in Oosterhout, NL
• 1996 - founding the Döhler China production site in Jinan
• 1997 - joint venture founded with Fischer-Döhler near Sao Paulo, Brazil
• 2001 - takeover of Dinter, Neuenkirchen/Germany
• 2002 - new flavours, innovation and technology center in Darmstadt/Germany
• 2003 - new factory in Pune/India
• 2004 - Staff moves into the new customer and communication center in Darmstadt
• 2005 - Holding in ALKO International B.V., a leading specialist for natural beverage bases
• 2006 - INNOVAL-DÖHLER joint venture in Mexico City
• 2007 - takeover of Jahncke with its production facilities in Poland and Ukraine and new production and application center is opened in Shanghai, China
• 2008 - Döhler America Latina opens the Center of Excellence for Citrus in Limeira/Brazil
• 2008 - Holding in BONJUICE, Schwalmtal in Germany
• 2009 - acquisition of Sanchuan Rizhao, China and new distribution and application center in Dubai opens
• 2010 - ALKO International B.V., a leading specialist for natural beverage bases, becomes part of the DöhlerGroup
• 2011 - Commissioning of a production facility for cereal and malt extracts in Neuss/Germany and commissioning of the new, state-of-the-art flavor plant and a new testing facility in Darmstadt/Germany and takeover of a modern plant in Karaman/Turkey
• 2012 - integration of Shanghai KingBee Biotechnology Co. Ltd.
• 2013 – acquisition of fruit processing and flavors divisions of Delta Aromatic (DELRO) in Egypt; foundation of Döhler Egypt for the Production of Natural Food & Beverage Ingredients S.A.E., Cairo/Egypt
• 2014 - innoval Döhler becomes Döhler Mexico S.A. de C.V. and Döhler begins a joint venture with Afriplex, producer of premium-quality plant extracts and Africa’s leading supplier of natural extracts and taking over Beverage House (now Döhler North America) in Cartersville, USA
• 2015 - Döhler acquires a majority share in dry ingredients specialist Molda
