The EFBW was created in 2003 to join European national associations operating in the sector of bottled water (mineral, spring and table waters), following up the former associations Unesem and Ginesec, which were originally set up in Paris in the early 1950s to promote natural waters at both the European and international level.

Company Profile

EFBW – or the European Federation of Bottled Water - is a registered non-profit international trade association and serves as a voice of the bottled water industry, dedicated to promoting the qualities of natural mineral water, spring water and other types of bottled waters before EU institutions and international organizations.

The EFBW works closely with EU institutions and regulatory bodies to inform and ensure that the interests of the bottled water sector is represented.

The association is also an active member of the Food and Drink Europe as well as the International Council of Bottled Waters Association (ICBWA).

Due to its membership of national associations, bottled water companies as well as suppliers, the European Federation of Bottled Water represents almost 600 producers of bottled water across Europe. The membership base consists of 26 national trade associations, 7 direct member companies as well as different scientific and research institutions.

The federations permanent secretariat is based in Brussels, Belgium. EFBW‘S main governing bodies are the General Assembly, which includes all the organizations members, the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.

EFBW’s current President is Mr. Jean-Pierre Deffis.
