Company Profile
SIMEI is the leading international trade fair for wine technology. The participating exhibitors of the SIME are, above all, representative of the top Italian products in the field of machines and equipment for wine production, which cover all phases: production, filling and processing, packaging, logistics.
The SIMEI trade fair is organized by the Italien Wine Union (UIV) which is the most important representive association of italien wine producers. The event has been biennial in Italy since its first editon but will be alternating between Munich and Italy thanks to a agreement signed with Drinktec (leading trade fair for beverage and liquid food technology).
SIMEI is the abbreviation for Salone Internazionale Macchine Per Enologia E Imbottigliamento (International exhibition of wine making and filling machines).

History
The first SIMEI took place at the Palazzo dello Sport, Fiera Milano, in November 1963 and moved to more suitable and larger halls in 1965. The exhibition grew considerably in the editions that follwed.
During the management of Antonio Niederbacher (1963-1985) the total area grew from 12,000 to 42,000 sqm, the number of exhibitors from 170 to 470 and visitors from 11,000 coming from 27 countries to 32,000 from 50 countries.
Simei has been growing ever since – the exhibitors where increased to 700, the area from 42,000 to 80,000 sqm and visitors from 32,000 to 48,000.
1997 it was possible to add to Simei a more properly wine-growing exhibition, Enovitis, with 8,000 sqm and almost 100 exhibitors, and to give up the side events.
Simei was by that time well-established and it had become ingrained in the quality growth of wine-growing sector and in the quantity growth in the sector of beer, mineral waters and soft drinks, as the international lanscape was always more open thanks to the starting in 1970 of the European Common Market, the enlargement of the European Union and the gradual “globalization” of the trade exchanges ruled by the agreement Gatt in Marrakech in April 1994.
